Where can you find free flight simulator on the Net?
Commercial and military flight simulators can cost millions of dollars in the aviation market. So are there really free flight simulators available?
Yes, you could be surprised that there are people who have passionately created free flight simulators and made them available for download on the internet!
Although these flight simulators are free for downloads, they are by no means inferior to the commercial ones. Besides using them for leisure, they can perhaps be used for basic flight training purposes. Here some of them which I have found. They ranged from those that can run on PC, down to even your mini cell phones.
Mind you, the graphics are by no means inferior to the commercial ones you'll find in airshow exhibits.
Free Mobile Flight Simulator
This free mobile flight simulator is really awesome! Although the simulation runs on most (Java-enabled) cell phone screens, the graphics are of satelite photographic quality (depending on the type of cell phone you used of course). You also get to select from a few aircrafts available (Pitts S2, Cessna C172, P-51 Mustang and even F-16 Falcon).
Try sustain a level flight altitude of 200 ft and observe how fast the landscape moves. Bear in mind there is no trim function available on this simple cell phone flight simulator. So you have to keep your finger busy with the elevator controls (Up/Dn keys) to keep yourself from crashing.
Free Google Earth Flight Simulator
This free Google Earth flight simulator is really awesome! You can fly an F16 Viper and tour some of the major cities on the Earth. The graphic textures are satelite photos textures and this simulator enables you to view the realistic landscape panoramically. Try to fly about 300 feet above the ground and enjoy the flight!
So if you are thinking of touring some parts of the world in flight but cannot afford one, this would be a much cheaper alternative.
You need to download and install Google Earth and enter a 'secret' control keys in order to activate this flight simulator. The link above will bring you to the instruction page.
Free Goggle Flight Simulator
Recently I came across this Goggles - GoogleMap FlightSim. A simple but interesting flight simulator that flies over a satelite GoogleMaps. You can select your starting position from NY, London, Hong Kong and even Sydney. You could even crash onto the ground if you are not careful.
This is also meant to be an attention grabber by someone who is looking for a job and hope that job hunters will read his CV. Perhaps this may also give you a similar idea of how you can create something to grab attention on the Web.
AirGuard - WWII Fighter Airplane Game
Recently I tried this WWII Fighter Airplane Game and found it fun and easy to play. You will get to pilot the British Spitfire and bring down the Nazi Germans airplanes.
The evaluation version comes with free 5-level play and the graphics are realistic and the sound effects are also good. I captured the scene on the left image while flying over a terrain. You may notice the sunbeam from the sun. That's how realistic it is.
YS Flight Simulator
Here is the YSFlight Simulation System developed by Mr Soji from Japan. He called himself Captain YS in his website.
