This is a Military Aviation Photography website that comes with many professionally taken airshow photographs by Roger Whitcomb.
Besides the usual wallpapers you can download freely from the site, you can also get to download wallpapers for mobile phones and get to send aircraft e-cards from the site to your friends (check it out under the Extra Stuff button).

Free 3D (VRML) Airplane Models
You probably will not find many of these 3D Virtual Airplane Model images on the Net for free. You can many of these 3D virtual images at www.ysflight.com which is a free simulator website owned by Mr Soji from Japan.
Using a VRML viewer or plugin which you can download here, you can view and rotate these virtual airplane models in the virtual '3D Space'. This is almost close to getting a real diecast model, except that it is not diecast but 'softcast' using VRML technology.
Want to know how you can create your own VRML Airplane models? Maybe this could be your personal research project during your free time.
Free Research Airplane Photographs
Are you are interested in research airplanes flown from the 1940s to the present ? Here is where you can get over 1900 jpeg images in multiple resolutions at NASA Dryden Aircraft Photo Collection Gallery and again they are free.
Here is where you not only find great photo images but also educational materials about the aircraft under research. For instance, here is a tailess aircraft on research - X36, designed with a canard forward of the wing and split aileron and an advanced thrust-vectoring nozzle for directional control.

Here is another site PDPhoto.org where you can get many airshow photos placed under public domain (no copyright restriction). The images are all in resolutions of 1024x768 pixels. But higher resolution photos are also available through special request.
Free Airplane Graphics
You can find over 150 airplane graphics collection at NASA Dryden Aircraft Graphics Collection website. This collection contains digitized drawings, graphics and line art of many of the unique research aircraft flown at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards, California from the 1940s to the present.
Multiple formats are provided for different needs - when available, an EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) file created in Adobe Illustrator, GIFS or JPEGS for printing and one low resolution file for viewing in a browser.
You can even print these drawings as colouring materials for kids at home and in school.
